Why Supervision is Important
All Psychologists, Social Workers and Behaviour Support Practitioners engage in regular clinical supervision as part of professional practice. Supervision helps ensure:
- Safe, high-quality and evidence-based care
- Ongoing professional development and accountability
- That any concerns or risks are reviewed appropriately
Supervision allows clinicians to reflect on therapy and seek guidance to support the best possible outcomes for clients.
Confidentiality in Supervision
Discussions in supervision are focused on clinical themes and treatment considerations. Personal identifying information (such as names, addresses, or other unique identifying details) is not disclosed unless:
- There is a serious risk of harm to the client or others
- There is a legal obligation to disclose information
- We are collaborating with treating professionals with your consent
Your privacy remains protected in line with the Psychology Board of Australia Code of Conduct for Psychologists, Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics and the Australian Privacy Principles, and NDIS Practice Standards where relevant.
Additional Information Regarding Provisional Psychologists
Provisional Psychologists are required to undertake more intensive supervision and must be able to discuss all client cases in supervision as part of their registration and ethical practice.
For this reason:
- Provisional Psychologists cannot provide services to clients who do not consent to supervision.
- If you do not consent to supervision, we will discuss alternative treatment options.
What You Are Consenting To
By providing consent, you understand and agree that:
- Your clinician will discuss aspects of your care in supervision
- Your privacy will be protected and identifying information is minimised
- Supervision enhances clinical quality, reflective practice, and safe care
- You may withdraw consent at any time — however this may affect whether your current clinician (especially a Provisional Psychologist) can continue to provide therapy
Questions or Concerns
Please speak with your clinician at any time. We want you to feel safe, well-informed, and empowered throughout your care.
